The Proposition
See Everest without walking. A helicopter lifts you from Kathmandu to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) in 45 minutes — a viewpoint that takes trekkers 12 days to reach on foot.
Cost: $1,250 per person. Duration: 4 hours total.
What Actually Happens
6:00 AM — Pickup from your hotel in Kathmandu. Drive to the domestic terminal.
6:45 AM — Briefing. Weather check (critical — if visibility is poor, the flight is postponed).
7:15 AM — Takeoff. The Eurocopter AS350 seats 5 passengers. Everyone gets a window.
7:45 AM — Landing at Kala Patthar. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam surround you.
8:00 AM — Breakfast. Champagne (or hot chocolate). About 25 minutes on the ground.
9:30 AM — Back in Kathmandu.
The Verdict
Worth it if: You don't have 14 days for the trek. You have mobility limitations. You want to add a "wow" day to a Kathmandu stay.
Not worth it if: You want the *journey* — the villages, the culture, the physical challenge.
Our honest take: We sell both. The trek changes your life. The helicopter changes your Instagram.
