Nepal Visa Guide 2026: Requirements, Process & Tips

Tourist Visa

Nepal offers visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu) and all land border crossings.

Requirements

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond entry date
  • Two passport-sized photos (color, white background)
  • Visa fee in USD cash (or equivalent)
  • Completed application form (available at airport or fill online at immigration.gov.np)

Fees & Duration

  • 15 days: $30 USD
  • 30 days: $50 USD
  • 90 days: $125 USD

Process

  1. Fill in the arrival card on the plane
  2. Use the electronic kiosks at Kathmandu airport to scan your passport and submit your application
  3. Queue at the visa counter (typically 15–40 minutes)
  4. Pay the fee, receive your visa sticker

Trekking Permits

TIMS Card (Trekkers' Information Management System)

Required for most popular trekking routes. $20 for organized groups, $40 for independent trekkers.

ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit)

Required for all Annapurna region treks. NPR 3,000 (~$22).

Sagarmatha National Park Permit

Required for Everest region treks. NPR 3,000 (~$22).

Restricted Area Permits

Required for Upper Mustang ($500/10 days), Upper Dolpo ($500/10 days), and Manaslu ($100/week in Sep-Nov, $75 other months). Must trek with a registered agency.

Tips

  • Carry multiple passport photos — you'll need them for various permits
  • Keep USD in small bills — $1, $5, $10, $20 for permit fees
  • Get permits through your agency — we handle all paperwork as part of the package
  • Keep photocopies — of your passport, visa, and all permits
