Tourist Visa Is Sufficient (With Conditions)

Medical elective students in Nepal operate under a tourist visa — there is no special "student" or "medical" visa category for short-term placements. However, you need additional documentation.

Required Documents

  1. Tourist visa (apply for 30 or 90 days based on placement length)
  2. University letter — confirming your enrollment and elective approval
  3. Hospital acceptance letter — we provide this from our partner hospital
  4. Professional indemnity insurance — covering clinical work in Nepal
  5. Travel insurance — with medical evacuation coverage
  6. Vaccination records — Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Japanese Encephalitis recommended

Visa Extension

If your placement is longer than your initial visa, you can extend at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu (Maitighar). We assist with this process.
